When search engines fail

Posted by allcooking on January 29, 2007

Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask.com we are all familiar what a search engine is and what it is supposed to do. Usually we type in a word or a phrase and the search engine returns websites that math those words or phrases. This works fine most generic things but if you are searching for something specific you are most likely going to have to spend a long time looking. What can we do when search engines fail?
You can try meta-search engines such as dogpile.com, metacrawler.com, mamma.com and several others. Meta-search engines are basically a bunch of regular search engines rolled together into one webpage. Consequently you will pretty much find the same useless information, just more of it. As a result you will have to spend even more time looking at the results but in the end you might actually find something useful that one particular search engine might have missed.

A better choice might be to seek help from actual people instead of relying on some search algorithm. You will get the best results by finding a forum that focuses on the general area of interest to you. An excellent webpage to find forums is forumvirus.com. The forums are sorted in categories and ranked by popularity so you are for sure going to find one that fits you the best.

The best choice is probably a website that offers the features of a forum but where you can post questions without having to go through the registration process. You can post all your questions at helpmesearchfor.com. They have experts dedicated to several categories so you are for sure getting the right answers. If you choose to register, you can get email notifications of answers and participate in community activates. If you consider yourself an expert you can choose to answer questions and collect points for rewards. It is the best free question and answer system I have seen on the net so far.
The internet is a vast collection of information at your finger tips; you just have to know the right way to extract what you are looking for. Use search engines, meta-search engines, forums or helpmesearchfor.com.

4 Things Paypal Users Should Know To Make Their Online Transactions More Secure

Online ecommerce is growing rapidly, and with that is the growing opportunity for fraud and scams. As Internet users, it is our responsibility to take some precautions that will make our online transactions safer.

One area we need to take responsibility for is protecting our online payment information. Online payment providers have come and gone, but one of them, Paypal, has been around for a while and has become the target of scammers. While this may be alarming, there are actually some very simple steps you can take to keep your Paypal account safe from scammers.

1. Never Click on Any of the Links Listed in a ‘Paypal’ Email

No matter how official the email you get from Paypal looks, never click on any of the links in the email. Instead of clicking on the links, open up a browser window, and type in paypal.com to go directly to their site from you browser. As a rule of thumb, only log into the paypal site if you type in the address into the address bar of the browser yourself.

If you get an email that seems official, but looks suspicious, then forward the email to spoof(at)paypal.com where they will be able to tell you if it was a valid email from them or not. To avoid confusion, Paypal will usually never send you an email telling you to log into their site from a link in their email.

2. How to Tell if the Email is Legitimate

If you get an email from Paypal telling you that your account has closed or some other urgent matter, there are things you can look at that will give you a good idea if the email is legitimate or not.

The way to do this is to select the menu selection in your mail program that allows you to look at the source code for the email. Locate the link (just search the page for the link text that sends you to Paypal of the link and you should find the link).

The link should look something like the following:

{link text you just searched for}

here is an example format of a spoofed link..

http:// ipox.xx.com.my/xxxxxx/paypal.com/xxxxx

Notice that the domain name is actually ‘ipox.xx.com.my’. You can see a paypal.com in the line, but that is actually the name of a directory in ‘ipox.xx.com.my’. If you click the link in the email, your browser will actually go to ‘ipox.xx.com.my’, which will be a very official looking Paypal page, but will not have any association with Paypal whatsoever. Users will think that they are at paypal because they see a paypal.com in the URL in their address bar, and they see the Paypal login page, but they couldn’t be more wrong!

These poor unsuspecting users will type in their username and password and will get a message such as the site is down for maintenance or some other fake message about why they can’t see their account information. At this point it is too late. They have given a phisher (scammer) their real username and password.

3. What Do Some of the Spam Messages Look Like?

These artificial phishing (scamming) messages come in many forms. One form is the typical ‘Your account is going to be deleted if you don’t log in right away’. Another message looks something like, ‘We have seen unusual activity on your account and it has been suspended’. Yet another message, and this style seems to be newer, is “Receipt of your payment to SOMECOMPANYNAME”.

If you will notice that all of these messages get to the heart of human behavioral responses and put us immediately into an emotional state where we are less likely to use are intellect and just immediately react to the message. If we imprint tip #1 into our brains, which is never click on any of the links in an email that looks like it comes from Paypal, we can help to overcome this reaction whenever these or other messages appear.

4. What to Do If You Entered Your Paypal Account Information into One of These Phishing Sites.

If you got caught up in the emotion and entered your Paypal information before you realized it was a fake scam site, you should immediately go to Paypal.com, log in and change your password. You should also monitor your account for any unauthorized activity. Should you see any activity, immediately fill out the ‘unauthorized activity form’ found in the ‘Protection Policies’ section of the help center on the website.

If you are really feeling vulnerable, call the support desk and immediately report the incident to a support specialist.

We can make our online Paypal transactions safer by using the tips listed. While there are certainly many exceptions, many of these online fraud situations occur from mistakes on the part of the user, and not the payment processing company, or merchant. Online safety 101 should be a mandatory class for anyone entering the Internet world today, however using a good dose of common sense will take you quite far.

Results Are Not Automatic

Posted by allcooking on January 29, 2007

By: Elias Georgi

Copyright 2006 www.eliasg.com

Many people grow frustrated with their home business ideas because they see a lack of immediate results. That is understandable–most of us who have left the traditional workforce for the greener pastures of owning our own businesses were motivated by a strong desire to escape our former career path. Home business owners want “out” of the dead-end rat race in a hurry!

In order to get results quickly, one needs to do many things. One needs a good plan. One needs quality instruction. One needs goals, aspirations and an understanding of his or her motivations. One other ingredient is essential to home business success. What is it? Action.

Action. That’s a small word that means a great deal in terms of making it as an entrepreneur. Too often, home business owners do not get the results they want because they are doing plenty of thinking and strategizing but are not taking enough action.

You have probably heard of “paralysis by analysis.” The expression refers to being stuck in place as more and more planning and research is conducted. It is a common problem in the information age and it has hurt countless home business owners seeking success. Many have found themselves learning more, planning more and understanding more but not seeing any real difference. That is because they fail to combine their knowledge with action. Often, they refuse to believe they have enough knowledge to make a real step toward success.

There is nothing wrong with research and learning. In fact, it is a critical component to success. However, a problem does arise when that infatuation with information acquisition begins to trade off with actually putting one’s knowledge to use.

I live by a simple equation: massive action = massive results. It is simple, but it is true. You cannot expect to experience awesome success without doing something. Paralysis by analysis is the antithesis to my perspective. I understand the value of learning and of mastering all aspects of my business, but I also realize that mastery is an ongoing and constantly-evolving process. Thus, I cannot “wait until it’s all figured out” to take action.

Are you disappointed in your home business results? Are things not moving as quickly or as powerfully as you would like? Any number of things could be wrong. You may have made a poor decision in terms of your business model. You might have saddled yourself with a plan that does not match your skills. You might not be working hard enough. There are a million reasons why results may not be meeting your expectations.

One likely culprit to consider is a lack of action. Have you really taken action or are you waiting in the wings, hoping to eventually take a step toward success? If you are not taking smart, but decisive action, you probably are not seeing results!

Remember, massive action = massive results. If things are not going your way, the best solution might be to do something with all of the information and ideas your have accumulated. Do not wait. Act.

Work at Home Time Management Tips

Posted by allcooking on January 29, 2007

People who work at home have the freedom to set their schedules and hours. However, it can be difficult to stay on task with so many additional distractions when you work at home. Here are some time management tips to help you stay on task as you work at home.

First of all, have a set agenda when you use your computer and go online as you work at home. Keep a list of your daily tasks and goals and stick to your list. It’s very easy to stray from your work tasks and check your personal email or just surf the net. Work from your to-do list and cross off your tasks as you accomplish each one. You should group similar tasks together. Check your email 2 or 3 times daily and answer your email at those same times. Work on one project at time and stick with that project until you are finished. Jumping between tasks as you work at home takes more time.

Assess your needs and see if it is justifiable to get wireless Internet and/or a laptop for your work at home needs. A laptop can enable to you to take your work with you if need be. This might be beneficial if you spend a lot of time waiting for kids at practices or if you are watching your kids in the yard while you try to work at home. Identify things at home that waste your time. Perhaps friends call to talk or your favorite television show comes on during the middle of the day. Try to eliminate these time wasters as you work at home. Don’t answer the phone for personal calls during your work time and avoid household distractions such as the television.

Use a timer to keep on task. Allow yourself so much time for a break or to accomplish quick tasks and stick to that set amount time. Having a routine helps with time management. A routine allows you to do task automatically and takes up less time. For instance, checking your email first thing everyday as you work at home can become routine and help you to get your day started right away. A routine allows your day to run more smoothly.

Finally, you have to set limits for yourself. Sometimes it’s not feasible to get all your work at home projects accomplished in one day. Make sure your goals are realistic and can be accomplished in the time you have allotted for them. Following these few rules can help you save time as you work at home and make your days a little easier.

According to a recent survey, the volume of internet traffic is expected to double annually over the next five years.

Consumers are expected to account for over 60 percent of all internet traffic over that period with the rest of the market made up of business users. What does that mean for you and your online business? It means customers……….millions of them…..literally.

No other business tool can put the products you sell to an audience of such an incredible amount of people so easily. That’s the power of the internet.

That’s why many online businesses are bringing in thousands of dollars every day, consistently. But what are the names of these successful internet businesses today? Well, for starters, you have the big ones like Yahoo, Goggle, Ebay and Amazon.

Statistics have proven that the vast majority of online businesses, especially the small ones, have a high failure rate. The art of Internet Marketing is ultimately what distinguishes success from failure.

Large companies usually have vast financial resources at their disposal in conducting research into internet marketing and sales penetration. They also make maximum use of the most up to date internet technologies available which are evolving almost on a daily basis.

Small home based businesses, on the other hand, usually lack the time and financial resources to conduct this type of marketing research and hence this could possibly explain the very high failure rate of small internet businesses.

There are many sites on the internet which offer advice on internet marketing. A simple internet search may all that may be required. Some internet marketing methods are as follows:

Buying advertising and keeping customers.

Secrets of winning internet traffic through search engines.

Getting rich from affiliate programs

Creating newsletters that sell as well as inform.

Selling informational products online.

Press releases.

Opt in lists.

Using blogs to increase market share.

The list can go on and on.

I have made available a complete source of online marketing advice, all packed into one place, absolutely free of charge, that would be a goldmine for profits for any home business owner.

You may question why I am going through all of this trouble to provide free professional advice for the taking?

The reason is that I am a byproduct of the current job market place and I know what it is to lose ones job in today’s competitive world.

The more you know, the more equipped you will be to fight the odds and succeed.

Focus – The Overlooked Difference Between Success And Failure

Posted by allcooking on January 29, 2007

By: Richard Adams

Copyright 2006 Richard Adams

How many elements are there to building a successful Internet business?

- Search engine optimization
- Pay per click advertising
- Banner advertising
- Affiliate marketing
- Email marketing
- Building an email list
- Viral marketing

… and they’re just for starters. The point is that there are literally *hundreds* of elements that can make your online business a success.

The problem is that this “range” can lead to procrastination or worse – total business failure.

One of the most important disciplines you can adopt in your online business is that of “focus”.

Learn to focus on just one element of your business and doggedly keep working at it until you become really, really good.

Until it becomes second nature.

Until it’s just so easy for you.

Then, and only then, are you ready to move onto the next element and start trying to focus on that.

This focus doesn’t just apply to marketing your business either. It applies to the everyday running of your business. Even creating new sites and products.

The best way to maintain focus on a large project is with planning.

Break down a project such as launching a new project into tiny bitesize pieces – writing an email to be sent out to your mailing list when your product launches, creating pay per click ads, building the sales page, linking up your shopping cart and credit card processing and so on.

Then set a plan of action that will lead you through to your desired result without too much thought. Set yourself targets of what you will achieve when.

In doing this you can simply glance at your plan to decide where you need to focus today then apply yourself 100% to that task.

Only when the task is completed to a satisfactory level do you move onto the next stage.

In doing this you don’t need to be thinking or worrying about other tasks you need to accomplish, nor do you need to be filling your brain with a to-do list of other shores to do “sometime”.

Your plan is on paper so you can forget about everything else except that one step you promised yourself you’d finish today.

Establishing this focus has been the biggest lesson I have learned over the last few years and has had a massive result on my productivity and consequently my results.

My business is now growing at a pace I could only have wished for just a few short years ago.

One of the biggest mistakes I see new Internet entrepreneurs making is just “treading water”. Making an advert here. Writing part of an article there. Creating half an ebook there. Starting a sales letter but not finishing it.

This unfocused time will never bring the results you crave.

One completed job will bring infinitely more profit than 100 half-finished projects.

So adopt this policy today and watch your results go through the roof.

I know it’s hard when you first start, but trust me – once you start seeing your bank balance swell you’ll never look back.

Are Your Sales On The Up?

Posted by allcooking on January 29, 2007

By: Homer Farey

Copyright 2006 Homer Farey

Ask Yourself Some Questions. How good is your sales letter? The old adage: “Sell the sizzle, not the steak” is as relevant now as it was in the old days of door knocking.

If I buy your product, how will I benefit? • Will it help me to become rich? • A better person? • Happier? • Better looking? • Will it make me more attractive to the opposite sex?

Convince me of just one of these, or similar things and the price you charge will not matter.

Let’s look at the sales letter. • Has It gone stale? • How good was it in the first instance? • Were you happy with the initial response? • If so, what went wrong? • Would a makeover put it right? • Perhaps it just needs a new headline.

If the click through rate is good, it would appear that the headline is doing it’s job. Should the ratio of purchases to clicks-through be poor, I would suggest that the text of the letter is not up to scratch. Just changing a few words here and there can give a quite different impression to the reader.

Whatever you are selling, a very large percentage of the population will not be interested in it. You must aim at those who would get the most benefit from your particular product.

You would not think of advertising fishing rods in a fashion magazine.

It is amazing how many things are aimed at e-zines and other media that have little or no relevance to the product.

Whatever you do, don’t give up. If you have faith in what you are selling, you will find the best methods of promoting it.

When writing an advert concentrate first on the headline. This is the most important part of the project. The headline must capture the reader’s attention. Without a good headline, the best advert in the world will be overlooked and just a waste of space, time and money.

Look now at the text of your sales letter/advert. Are you talking to a real person? Are you explaining what you and your product can do for that person? Do you come across as an honest reliable person? Or is your letter full oh hype with no substance?

Your prospect is not really interested in you. He/She is only interested in what is in it for them. Few people surf the net looking for something to buy. As a general rule they are looking for information. That is the reason that your headline has to stand out from the crowd. It must make them stop and take another look. It must intrigue them enough to make them want to read more. The content of the ad’ must excite them enough to want to purchase something that they did not even know existed just five minutes ago.

Does your advert do that? Writing an advert is not a skill that the majority of people are born with. It is something that needs to be learned. During your lifetime you have learned numerous things that were difficult in the beginning but that you rarely even think about now. They have become part of your lives. Writing adverts and articles is just another thing that you need to learn how to do well.

Looking back at some of my first efforts at writing adverts, it is a wonder that I ever sold anything, but I did, not a lot but I sold enough to realise that with a little practice there was money to be made by anyone with the will to learn and to take proper advice from the experts on how to go about it. (One day I hope to be an expert there is still a lot for me to learn.) It’s an on-going ever evolving process. Study as many adverts as you can. Try to figure out what it is that excites you and what just leaves you cold. Study the headlines. What made you read this one rather than that. Does the author of the advert strike you as honest and knowledgeable? What sort of guarantee is on offer? Be honest with yourself. Would you buy from this person?

Study, Study, study and keep on studying. You have just taken the first step on your way to becoming a very wealthy expert in your chosen field. Don’t let it stop there.

The Benefits of Internet Marketing

Posted by allcooking on January 29, 2007

By: Tansy Heathfield

Copyright 2006 Tansy Heathfield

Why should you consider internet marketing for your home business? Internet marketing has taken off in the last decade as more and more people from all around the world are turning to the internet as their link to products and services. In today’s world, most people start with the internet when they are ready to make a purchase. Customers want to be able to see prices and features at the click of a mouse. Taking the time to market your home business on the internet is one of the best things you can do to promote your product or service.

First of all, websites give credibility to your home business. Even though we all know that anyone can post a website, consumers still feel more secure if they can find a company online. They want the security of seeing the product or service in writing and they like being able to find the company’s contact information if they need it. Because most home businesses start small, this credibility is especially important. A website is your lifeline to the outside world, even when you are working in your pyjamas.

In addition to credibility, internet marketing also provides your customers with access at all hours of the day or night. This gives your home business the potential to make money while you sleep, cook dinner, play with your kids, or are away on that well earned vacation. This twenty-four hour, seven days a week, 365 days a year access for your customers makes it even easier for you to run your business and bring in the profits.

Customers also like the convenience of internet marketing. They like to be able to view and compare different products before making their final choice to purchase a product in their own time and in the comfort of their own home. You provide a valuable service to your customer when you give them the convenience of viewing, comparing and purchasing online.

In all, it is important to realize the benefits of internet marketing. Every day, it gets easier to make money online and it is important that you take advantage of this important way to make your home business work. Without internet marketing, working at home can become tedious and often your profits will not match the countless hours you are putting into your product. Take the time to market your product online and you will begin to make money online. It is that simple, so get started today!
